Design of Pedestal for "Bharatha" statue at Chandragiri hill, Shravanabelagola, ASI (2006)
An unconventional outdoor pedestal design, that resulted by addressing the carefully created constraints of anthropometrics, maintenance (nature, material and construction), history (aspects of “respect” and language of design) and symbolism (cultural/psychological annotation of shapes and material). The olden bulky railings were replaced by the new design to provide an apt setting to draw visitors to appreciate the statue of Bharatha.
The walkway to "chandra-paduka" was similarly studied and minimalistic changes were made to provide an easier and safer climb to the top of the hill through the rough terrain, preserving and repairing the original steps.
