Highway Hotel (Motel) on national highway No.8 nr. Rajkot, Gujarat (Mar 2004)
A dream project of a bapu from Rajkot to create an exceptional “enviable” motel. The design emerged from a study of existing motels or highway restaurants, in terms of housed functions, usage (peak and non-peak hours), range of visitors and the “need” for a “halt”. Comparing the analysis with the stark and monotonous forms of motels that abound our highways made us invent ways to bring in “romance” into the experience.
The program comprised restaurants, rooms, shops, staff residential quarters, admin functions, swimming pool, a mini-zoo (extended animal farm) and parking.
