Measured drawings of Shri Eklingji Temple Complex, Udaipur, Rajasthan
Project for the king of Udaipur, Shri Arvind Singh Ji Mewar, to document through measured drawings the ancient heritage that comes under his purview and was as yet undocumented. Conducted the measured drawings of the entire complex with a team of 6 architecture students from School of Architecture, CEPT (Nov2001–July2002). Documentation included: The plan of the entire complex of 108 temples, Site sections, Main Eklingji temple, Harihara temple (Meera temple), and the Lakulisha temple.
The main and only task – to draw it up – required managing the young collegian team, strategising methods to deal with the mammoth temple, the dense complex, utilising x-ref methods to work concurrently on the same drawing with minimal discrepancies.

About the temple The main temple, first built in 728AD, is made in white marble. It houses the main idol, a four faced image of Mahadev (an icon of Lord Shiva) which is worshipped as Eklingji. The site is also important as it was the place where Bappa Rawal received religious discourse from his guru, Harit Rishi. The temple that stands today is not the original structure but the one built on the site of the ancient temple(728AD) that has gone through subsequent changes and renovation. In fact, as later as in the 15th and 16th century, Maharana Raimal too rebuilt and renovated this temple.

About the temple complex
The temple complex is situated 20km from Udaipur. It is a complex of 108 temples built in a meandering valley in vicinity of lakes, one behind the temple garden and others nearby; surrounded by hills – the place is known as Kailashpuri (or the abode of Shiva).
It was built by Bappa Rawal (ancestor of the Mewar dynasty of which came the Great Rana Pratap). Shri Eklingji Mahadev is the family deity of the ruling Mewar dynasty. Even today the Maharana of Udaipur visits this temple every Monday. The Lord is regarded as the real ruler of the state who functions through his representative on earth, the Maharana of Udaipur.
