The Hindu temple has been of tremendous inspiration and awe. The numerous aspects, symbolic as well as structural layering motivates me to learn more of it. I have ventured by probing into its theory and have tried knowing it closely by means of measured drawing and 3D CAD re-generation.
A temple on the island of Omkareshwar, Madha Pradesh, with two storied shivalinga is peculiar in Plan. With my rising interest in Hindu temple, this temple with its star-shaped (non-orthogonal) plan intrigued me. I measure drew a quarter of it using tape-measure to later attempt deciphering the vastu-mandala system in its geometry.
The plan study is inspired by “The Hindu Temple” (Stella Kramrisch) is limited and lays incomplete.
Before even choosing which vastu-shashtra to begin my study with, Stella Kramrisch’s “The Hindu Temple” provided a good source with multiple references. Reading her intense work required to make my diagrammatic notes. The notes are interpretation of her text regarding the directions and seat of devas in the padas of the vastu purusha mandala; their polarities, the “marma” (delicate veins) of the vastu purusha and the various types of vastu purusha modules meant for the house of man and the house of God.
